Ladies Start Season 2-0

by Tina Ratcliff

October 25, 2007

The Lady Dawgs took on their first opponents last Tuesday, playing both Hamilton and Elk Valley.  What started out as nerves for the Dawgs ended as total pumped up anticipation for their first game of the season.

Starting out the night on a good note, the Madison JV took out the Elk Valley JV girls in two games with scores of 25-20 in the first and 29-27 in the second game.  The ladies had dead on serves with 88% of them going over and 7 of the 14 aces belonging to Victoria Dean.  The Dawgs summed the night up with 9 kills, 9 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 defensive digs.

On the varsity side of things, the ladies came out pumped and ready to show their stuff, which is exactly what they did by defeating Elk Valley in three games.  The first game was tense, with the team winning 25-21.  They lost some momentum in the second game and fell to Elk Valley 16-25, but this wasn’t going to stop them.  They charged into the third game and came out with a victory, beating them with a score of 25-15.

Overall the Dawgs served 91%, with team captain, Abby Kile, scoring 13 points.  The ladies had 23 kills and 18 blocks with sophomores, Morgan Stout and Shelby Buster leading both categories.  The team also had 53 assists and 12 defensive digs.

They wrapped up the night with a win over Hamilton in two games, scores being 25-16 in the first game and 25-19 in the second.  Serving was good with 89% going over and Kile once again led with 13 points.  The Dawgs had 29 kills, 8 defensive digs, 4 blocks, and 33 assists, with co-captain, Molly Ballard putting up 17 and Kile tossing in 13.

The team plays this week against Marais des Cygnes Valley in Melvern.  They will also be playing this Saturday, September 8, in the Eureka Tournament.  Once again, we encourage you to come out and show your support for our Lady Dawgs!
