Madison Girls Gain Two Huge League Wins

by: Tina Ratcliff

January 17, 2008

Tuesday night’s match up was sure to be a good one as the Madison Lady Dawgs took on the 6-0 Lyndon Lady Tigers.

Madison came out quick and in control as the offense put up 22 points in the first quarter and at one point led by as much as 20 points.  The defense really stepped up and kept the Lyndon offense to only 7 points.  As the second quarter progressed, the Lady Dawg offense became a little too rushed and allowed Lyndon to gain on the Madison lead, but not enough to make much of a difference as the score was 38-27 going into halftime, still in the Dawgs’ favor.

The third quarter once again proved to be a Madison domination as the defense kept the Lady Tigers to a mere 5 points while the better organized Dawg offense scored 11 points, leaving the score 49-32.

Something went horribly wrong on the Lady Dawgs offense throughout the fourth quarter, which led them to score only 9 points.  The Lady Tigers attempted a comeback and scored 19 points, but never came closer than 4 points to the Madison lead.  In the end, Madison handed the Lyndon Lady Tigers their first loss of the season and provided a big LCL win on the Lady Dawgs side.

Leading scorer was Morgan Stout with 15 points, followed by Abby Kile with 13 points.  Shelby Buster threw in 10 points and 12 rebounds while Chelcie Schankie scored 8 points.  Also contributing points was Tera Titus with 5, Bethany Whitehurst with 4, and Molly Ballard wrapped it up with 3 points.

After such a big victory Tuesday night, Madison came into Friday’s game against the MdCV Lady Trojans fired up and ready to fight.  The first quarter was very fast paced and showed Madison with both a large and a quick lead, with score being 26-6.  The second quarter slowed down a bit, but continued to show Madison dominance as the score was brought to 44-18 going into the half.

Coming back out into the third quarter, the Dawgs went on another scoring streak and put up 25 points to the Trojans 13, leaving the score 69-31.  The fourth quarter didn’t allow many points for either team and set up lots of free throws for MdCV due to the Madison fouls.  Madison ended with another LCL victory over the Trojans with a score of 77-38.

Scoring a good percentage of Madison’s points was Stout with 30 points and 10 rebounds.  Following were Buster with 15 points, Titus with 9 points and 8 rebounds, Schankie with 8 points, Whitehurst throwing in 6 points, and Kile and Jennifer Finch contributing 2 points each.

The Dawgs travel to Flinthills on Tuesday and to Waverly for a make-up game that has been rescheduled for Friday.  On Saturday, the Lady Dawgs will turn around and head back to Waverly for a JV tournament.  The LCL Tournament kicks off on Monday night in Emporia.  Thank you for your continued support throughout the season.
