Lady Dawgs take hard loss

by Tina Ratcliff

January 17, 2008

Last Tuesday night the Lady Dawgs traveled to neighboring town Olpe to take on old rivals the Lady Eagles on their home turf advantage.  The Lady Dawgs knew they’d have to come out strong if they wanted to get on top and stay there, but failed to do so by letting Olpe slide by with a score of 21-4 in the first quarter.  The second quarter proved a little better, as Madison only let Olpe score 22 pts to the Dawgs’ 18, leaving the score going into halftime at 43-22 with the Eagles on top.  The third quarter once again showed Olpe outscoring the Lady Dawgs, with 10 pts for Madison to the Eagles’ 18.  Coming into the final quarter the Dawgs tried to make a comeback by outscoring the Lady Eagles, 9 pts for the Lady Dawgs to Olpe’s 5, but failed to do so and lost 66-41.  Leading scorer for the night was Shelby Buster with 21 pts, followed by Morgan Stout with 12 pts.  Molly Ballard, Malacie Bybee, Abby Kile, and Bethany Whitehurst all threw in 2 pts.

Friday night, the Lady Dawgs took a trip up north to visit the Lady Lebo Wolves.  Starting out things were pretty even.  They ended the first quarter with a score of 12-10 in Lebo’s favor.  During the second quarter the Wolves managed to stay ahead, going into halftime with the score 30-25, still in Lebo’s favor.  Coming out in the third and fourth quarters, Madison just couldn’t gain any momentum and only scored 14 points to Lebo’s 29.  The Dawgs fell to the Lady Wolves 59-39.

Stout led in points with 13 points and 5 rebounds.  Following were Chelcie Schankie with 8 points, Whitehurst with 5 points and 5 rebounds, Tera Titus and Buster with 4 points each, Danielle Bond with 2 points and 5 rebounds, Bybee with 2 points and Kile with 1 point.

The Lady Dawgs’ game that was scheduled for Tuesday night at Waverly has been re-scheduled for January 18 at Waverly due to the weather.  They play on Friday at Hartford.  Their last game before Christmas break will be at home, next Tuesday, December 18 vs the Burlingame Bearcats.  They would love to see all of you there to support them!
